My story of HIV and AIDS

As a medical doctor living with HIV,  Nafuna Wamai has faced various struggles from contracting HIV to navigating the various Antiretroviral (ART) regimens. Through this story she aims to lessons learnt and encourage others the remarkable power of resilience.

Dr. Wamai grew up in a large family with limited resources. Living with HIV for over 35 years, she maintains an undetectable viral load. She has overcome childhood trauma and found her way through the barriers of stigma and discrimination to achieve academic excellence. She over came  barriers of stigma and discrimination to achieve academic success.

Dr. Wamai’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination. Her story serves to help those share their own stories. Her courage will help other to share their own stories. Her courage will create a ripple effect of inspiration, hope and healing.

About the Author

Nafuna Wamai is a 58 year old medical doctor from Mbale Uganda, who has lived with HIV for more than 35 years. 

Despite facing many challenges, stigma and discrimination Dr. Wamai maintained a strong academic performance and achieved success in her career. She is committed to sharing her story to raise awareness, reduce stigma and inspire others.
